Mpho's early years were spent living with her grandmother in Hebron, near Tshwane, before reuniting with her parents in Mabopane.
Born to parents who both worked as educators, Mpho was instilled with values of hard work and excellence from a young age. She completed her matriculation in 1994 and subsequently gained admission to the University of Witswatersrand (Wits) in 1995 to study Chemical Engineering. However, during her second year at Wits, Mpho decided to pursue a more people-oriented career and embarked on the path to becoming a doctor at Sefako Makgatho University and MEDUNSA.
In 2005, Mpho qualified as a medical doctor and began her internship at Tembisa Hospital. Following this, she completed her community service in Hammanskraal, where she provided medical services at Jubilee Hospital and various clinics in the area.
During her community service year, Mpho also pursued Project Management Studies through Cranefield College, obtaining advanced and postgraduate diplomas in Project Management and Programme Management.
Furthermore, Mpho is a Certified Independent Medical Examiner (CIME) accredited by the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners (ABIME).
Over the next six years of her career, Mpho explored service delivery models in different contexts, including mining houses. She established her own company, specializing in disability consulting services for SASSA in Gauteng and the North-West.
Driven by the sight of poverty in underdeveloped North-West villages, Mpho paused her business and returned to Gauteng to enhance her skills. She pursued an MMed in Public Health Medicine at Wits University in 2011, leading her to settle in Johannesburg.
Mpho further worked as a casualty officer at the Alexandra Community Health Centre and as a sexual assault care practitioner at Far East Rand Hospital in Springs. Additionally, she served on the Professional Conduct Committee of the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
Upon her appointment as MMC Health and Social Development, Mpho was also offered the role of Medical Advisor in the Compensation Commission, which she declined to serve the people of Johannesburg.
Mpho's entry into politics was spurred by her experience at the Alex Clinic, where community living conditions translated into ongoing public health challenges. This motivated her to become a DA PR councillor in Johannesburg, aiming to contribute to the restoration of Alex Township. She eventually gave up her business to serve as the member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Health and Social Development.
As MMC, Mpho advocated for extended clinic service hours and led the City's comprehensive substance abuse prevention and treatment strategy, among other accomplishments.
Currently, Mpho serves as a PR councillor and a member of the DA caucus in Johannesburg.
She is a single mother of three children, aged five, eleven, and eighteen, and enjoys spending time with family and friends, going for walks, long drives, and serene hikes for meditation.
During the lockdown, she embarked on a career in corporate coaching through the Global Institute for Organizational Coaching, using her skills to mentor and coach disadvantaged youth.
Her favorite foods include "chicken 'hardbody'" with "bogobe ba ting" (brown, sour pap), chicken livers, and garlic prawns.
Mpho's preferred artist is Ella Fitzgerald, and her favorite book is the Holy Bible.
