Catherine Jepkemboi is her given name. 'Minicheps' is derived from the Swahili phrase'mimi ni cheps,' she previously revealed.
Jepkemboi was born and raised in Nandi County's Kapsabet. Meshack Korir is the name of her husband. He is an animator and works with her to take and edit the viral photos. They live in Racecourse, which is on the outskirts of Eldoret.
The couple has two sons, one of whom is two and a half years old and the other who is one year old. Jepkemboi says she is hesitant to include her children in her photography projects for fear of being trolled.
Jepkemboi did not continue her education past the primary level because her parents could not afford secondary school education fees.
After her educational ambitions were dashed, she found work as a housekeeper in towns such as Embu, Ruiru, and Nairobi.
Minicheps later settled in Eldoret and began selling samosas, earning her the nickname'mama samosa' until February 2021, when her edited photos went viral on the internet.
Minicheps began her photography career in 2019 by proposing to her husband that she take photos and post them online. In response, Korir (the husband) came up with the idea of creatively posting miniature photos, and the couple embarked on the journey with a borrowed camera.
Minicheps revealed in various interviews that the photo editing software she uses is a trade secret she would never reveal. She currently has numerous advertisement gigs from reputable companies such as Multichoice, an entertainment firm that operates under DSTV and GoTV.
