Mercy Wanyama is a basketball player from Kenya. She is currently a professional player in Spain.
Education and the early years
Mercy Wanyama was born on January 14, 1992. She attended Langata High School and Shiners Girls in Nakuru. Mercy school in St. Peter's lower level classes
Career
Wanyama competed in the Kenya Basketball Federation's Women Premier League and for the Equity Hawks from 2016 to 2018, where she was named MVP of the national league and club qualifiers.She also played for the MTM Storms, a local club. She joined the Spanish club ADBA Avilés in 2018.Later, she moved to the AD Cortegada LF2 team in Spain, where she is now.
She won the special MVP award at the start of the 22-23 season after scoring 23 points and grabbing 12 rebounds while hitting a high Val of 43.
Private life
She is the younger sister of Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama and former international McDonald Mariga, and their father is a former AFC Leopard player.
She led Kenya's women's basketball team to the FIBA Afrobasket championships in 2021.
Mercy Wanyama of the Kenya Lionesses was named to the second team of the 2023 EuroBasket All Spanish LF2 league awards for the 2023 regular season, which were announced on Friday night.
Following a remarkable season in which the Kenyan led her team, Club Mariscos Anton Cortegada, in both points and rebounds, averaging 12.9 points, 10.0 rebounds, and a 49% field goal shooting percentage per game this season, Wanyama was named to the Eurobasket Center first and second teams.
"Congratulations to our client, Kenyan international All Star Mercy Wanyama, on her nomination to the 2023 Eurobasket.com All Spanish LF2 League," her agency team, DC Sports Agency, said on Friday night on social media.
Former Storms player Wanyama responded, "Truly honored." We made it through a difficult season. Thank you to God and everyone who encouraged and supported me."
Wanyama, the sister of Kenyan footballers Victor Wanyama and McDonald Mariga, finished her regular season with AD Cortegada in a 57-53 win on April 8 and was named to the league's second team alongside Carolina Bernardesco (Arxil), Pillar Cornellas (Leida), Tereza Sediakova (CD Talent), and Cesarina Capellan of Leon.
Iyana Martin (Segle XXI), Amy Griffin (Plasencia), Aya Traore (Sant Josep), Marija Stojiljkovic (Unicaja), and Mariana Muadi of Almeria dominated the first team.
Wanyama's list of individual honors includes the Kenya Basketball Federation League MVP, Africa Zone V best Power Forward, and Zone V best Center awards.
Wanyama's career has included stops at Kenya's Equity Hawks (from 2016 to 2018), a brief stint in Nigeria, and Spanish club Ensino (for two seasons).
She has played for Kenya's U-23 national team and recently competed for the Lionesses in the Zone V championships, finishing third behind Egypt and Uganda.
