Kenyan politician and activist Ledama Ole Kina. He is the incumbent senator for Narok County, having been decisively re-elected as the senator Narok in the 2022 general elections.
Age
Ole Kina was born in the Kenyan town of Narok on November 11, 1974. He grew up in the village of Oloombokishi.
Education
In the early 1980s, Ledama enrolled at Ole Sankale Primary School. He later enrolled at Narok High School for secondary education, which he completed in 1994.
He then went to the United States to study for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and English Communication at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, and Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado.
Political Profession
Ledama was not very interested in politics. He entered politics in 2017 when he ran for and won the Narok County senate seat.
Achievement
Senator Ledama is the founder of Maasai Education Discovery (MED), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting a bicultural approach to education for Maasai girls.
In 2002, he established the MED project in Narok and began scholarship programs for girls to attend primary schools, high schools, and colleges. Every year, 1500 students attend the program.
He also established an education resource center in Narok, which serves as the hub for MED's initiatives, as well as a house library, a community college, a business center, and a cultural art center.
Ole Kina digitized about 15 schools in Narok and Kajiado districts in 2002, and he provided internet to Narok.
In 2006, Ledama created the first wireless network in Narok, and he founded the first online investment firm to assist Kenyans residing in the diaspora in investing in the Nairobi Securities Exchange.
Contraversy
In 2018, the Kenya National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) warned Ledama against making statements bordering on incitement against the Kipsigis Community.
Kenyan MPs accused him of promoting hatred against one community after claiming that the majority of state jobs in Kenya were going to one community.
