Lauren James, born September 26, 2001, is an English footballer who plays as a forward for Chelsea in the FA Women's Soccer League (WSL). She is the sister of Reece James, a well-known Chelsea FC Senior team defender. Lauren returned to Chelsea in 2021, the club where she began her football career before moving on to Arsenal for a season before joining Manchester United for three seasons between 2018 and 2021.
Lauren James grew up playing football with her brothers, all of whom were coached and guided by their father, a licensed UEFA coach.
James was scouted by Arsenal at the age of 13 and trained with the boys' team for two years before joining the first team.
In 2010, she began her youth career with Chelsea before being scouted by Arsenal. Lauren James made her Arsenal debut on September 29, 2017, coming on in the 67th minute to replace Lisa Evans in a 2-0 win over Everton in the 2017-18 season.
As a result, she became Arsenal's second-youngest player to make her debut.
She joined Manchester United in 2018 and will remain with the club until 2021. On August 19, she made her competitive debut for Manchester United in a 1-0 League Cup victory over Liverpool.
As the football season began that year, she made an impressive start by scoring the first two goals in United's first game of the 2018-19 Championship season, a 12-0 win away to Aston Villa.
Lauren James was named FA Women's Championship player of the month for September after scoring three goals in Manchester United's unbeaten start to the season.
James finished the 2019-20 season as United's top scorer and was named to the PFA Women's Young Player of the Year shortlist of four players.
James signed a four-year contract with Chelsea, a club she has always admired, on July 23, 2021.
James made her under-17 debut for England in a 2-0 friendly loss to the United States in April 2017. She captained England in a 10-0 win over Latvia in UEFA Women's Under-17 Championship qualification on 14 October 2017, scoring four goals.
She received her first call-up to the under-19 squad in January 2019 for the Algarve Tournament due to her outstanding performances in the U-17 squad.
James was named to England's squad for the 2019 UEFA Under-19 Championship in Scotland in July 2019.
James received her first senior national team call-up in November 2020 as part of a 29-player training camp at St George's Park.
Lauren James is Chelsea and England defender Reece James' younger sister. In Whitton, London, she attended Whitton School.
Lauren is the family's youngest member. Aside from the well-known Chelsea player, Reece James, she has another elder brother.
Nigel James, her father, has admitted that he is proud of his children. He is overjoyed to see both of his children achieve their goals.
