Larry hails from  humble villages of Alego Siaya county. He studied both in Rural and urban schools. A very dedicated person who dreamt of becoming a catholic priest initially before changing to journalism after high school graduation.  He attended Usingo and Karapul primary schools and St Gabriel's Seminary for secondary education. Journalism Career of Larry Madowo

He started his journalism career in 2006 when he enrolled for a college degree on Communication degree in Daystar University. However, on the third year after interning at Bahasha FM, a vernacular station he took up a role at KTN which lasted for a few years before joining NTV as a business editor. Larry later joing CNBC in South Africa but only lasted for 8 months before coming back to NTV. He became unhappy when his article critizing the government for shutting up local TV stations from airing a political event was ignored by his bosses. When CNN published the article, he critized the TV station and resigned.

On 11 April 2018, it was announced that Madowo was joining BBC News Africa as Business Editor. He led a team of business journalists based in Nairobi, London, Lagos, Dakar and Johannesburg. He has appeared across BBC World TV, BBC World Service Radio, BBC News channel in the UK, bbc.com and BBC Radio 4 as a reporter or commentator on African business.

Larry has won awards like the 2019 Association of International Broadcasting Awards in 2019 in London on a documentary he did about chinese-funded railway lines in Kenya. In 2019, April, he was named among the 2019–2020 Knight-Bagehot Fellows at Columbia University.

Promotions

Larry has had a number of promotions during his career. From becoming a business editor to a digital analyst and news anchor at NTV; he has also been promoted by his previous employer, BBC. Recently his current employer, CNN, promoted from Kenyan Correspondent to International Correspondent for the channel. He now heads a team of journalists working for CNN in Africa.

Larry Madowo is known to be very active on his social media accounts. He posts almost daily on his Facebook, Youtube, Twitter and Instagram accounts where he has millions of followers.
