Johnny Drille is a Nigerian singer-songwriter originally from Edo State. He is signed to Don Jazzy's label, Mavin Records. Born John Ighodaro, he became interested in music at a young age. He first became known after the release of his hit single "Wait for Me" in 2016.


Early Life and Career

Johnny Drille started learning to play the guitar as a teenager. Following that, he began writing his own songs. In 2014, he competed in the MTN Project Fame West Africa singing competition, where he was discovered by Don Jazzy and quickly signed with Mavin Records.

Music and Other Projects

Johnny and his siblings began singing in church early on. He joined the children's choir and began playing the keyboard in 2001. He also joined a group called 'Soul Awakening Signers' and sang alongside his sister and some other familiar faces. Then, in 2006, he began teaching himself music production using his cassette recorders.

Drille has released numerous singles since his debut in 2016. "Wait for Me", "Mystery Girl", "Love Don't Lie", and "Shine" are among them. He has also worked with several artists, including Simi, Runtown, Di'Ja, and Mr Eazi. In 2017, he started a YouTube series called "The A-List" in which he interviews other musicians and discusses music production.

 

Johnny Drille has received several nominations, including the Headies for Next Rated Artiste of the Year in 2017 and the Soundcity MVP Award for Best New Artiste of the Year in 2018. He won the Headies award for Best Alternative Song of the Year in 2020.
