Jackson Ole Sapit is a bishop of the Kenyan Anglican Church. On May 20, 2016, he was elected as the sixth archbishop and primate of the Anglican Church of Kenya.
Early years
On June 12th, 1964, Jackson Nasoore Ole Sapit was born. In 1977, he was baptized. He attended Rotian Primary School from 1973 to 1980 and Narok High School from 1981 until his graduation in 1984.
Education
From 1989 to 1991, Sapit studied for a degree in theology at Berea Theological College in Nakuru. He then joined the University of St. Paul, Limuru in 1994, where he studied for a degree in theology until completing this course in 1997 before joining Daystar University for a certificate in research/counseling.
Between 2002 and 2003, Ole Sapit went to the University of Reading in the UK, where he obtained a master's degree in social development and sustainable livelihoods. He received an Honorary Doctorate in Professional Studies in Lifelong Learning from Global University in California.
Career
Ole Sapit was confirmed in 1985, then he worked as a missionary and community advocate in Narok from 1987 to 1988. In July 1991, he was ordained a deacon and later a priest in July 1992.
Between 1992 and 1994, he was a pastor at Belgut Parish in the Diocese of Nakuru. Ole Sapit served as vicar and project manager for the Transmara Rural Development Programme in Kilgoris Parish from 1997 until 2002.
Between 2003 and 2004, Ole Sapit served as Diocesan Mission and Development Coordinator for the Nakuru Diocese. He served as a suffragan Bishop in the Diocese of Kericho from 2005 to 2007. He was elected as the sixth archbishop and primate of the Anglican Church of Kenya in May 2016, and he was installed on July 3rd, 2016 at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi.
