He has been in show business for a long time and has always strived to remain relevant. Unlike many artists, Mwafreeka is diversified. He raps, hosts, performs, presents, and produces films. He is the all-around MC. His comedic TV show 'Raiyaa', which he co-hosts with comedian Rapcha He's also known for taking a controversial stance on women and relationships. Most recently, he admitted to having a crush on popular singer Marya. What he says or does in public reflects exactly who he is.
"In my rhymes and TV shows, I take political issues seriously, just as I do in real life." I joke about ladies in my poems in the same way that I do with them in person. Mwafreeka says, "I stand by my rhymes."
He has been as successful on television as he has in music, serving as a judge on two seasons of Channel O MC Africa. He also co-hosted The Space, a sociopolitical youth show, with the lovely Kaz. For over four years, he has been on television in the show 'Raiyaa'. He believes that his music provided him with possibilities and helped him get to where he is now.
Born Makarios Ouma, he changed his name from Mwafrika to Mwafreeka in February because, with his hectic schedule and greater chances, he is now 'free' to pursue his true passions.
He is the executive producer of Kuruu, a Kenyan imitation of the popular US animated series The Boondocks. It also features vocals by his friend, comedian Rapcha. Mwafreeka says that the series will debut on television soon. Kuruu is produced by the film production business 'I Am The Future.' He is also working on an entertainment magazine show called Iko Nini, which focuses on celebrities, under the same production house.
On the international scene, he has collaborated with K'Naan and Craig G, whom he greatly admires. He sees himself working with Stephen Marley in the future because of his political savvy. Locally, he has collaborated with several artists and admires them all. His album 'Akili ya Mwafreeka', which already has two smash tracks on the radio, is nearing completion. He vows that his first tour, which will begin shortly after the album's release, will take him to colleges across Kenya to preach hip hop love, much like Rabbit did.
