Elani is a Kenyan afro-pop group band, initially started with four members, Maureen Kunga, Wambui Ngugi, Brian Chweya, and Daniel Kimani, at Alliance Francaise Nairobi in 2008. Later Daniel left the group for reasons not yet known, and the trio carried on and between 2020 and 2011, they decided to take their music seriously and elevate it to the next level.
They released their debut single, 'Jana Usiku' in 2013, which was a great success, paving an amazing platform for their subsequent singles, in the making of the debut album Barua ya Dunia. Their style of music ranges from Afro-pop, contemporary, R&B, soul, and neo-soul.
In 2014, they released hits; 'Milele' and 'KooKoo,' which was the most successful production and most downloaded song. Later on, they released; 'Hatua,' 'Zuzu,' 'Uko Wapi,' 'Mahindi,' and 'Barua ya Dunia.'
'Nikupende' followed through then, a collaboration with Uganda's Jose Chameleon 'My Darling' made a hit. They recently released an audio album Colours of Love; a classic love story narrated in songs including; 'Heartbeat,' 'Only You,' 'Kaa Mbali,' 'Joto,' among others.
They were nominated as The Most Gifted East Africa at The Channel O Music Video Awards and won The Best African Pop at the AFRIMA for their hit KooKoo in 2014.
