Jane Mugo is a mother of two sons. She has recently broken up with her 3month engaged boyfriend
Since 2010, Mugo has worked as a private investigator, going through several training programs, including a criminology course to expand her skills. She was previously a nun.
Jane Mugo filed a complaint in 2015 alleging harassment and intimidation by the Nairobi provincial criminal investigations officer. Her complaint was upheld, and some charges against her were later dismissed.
The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNHCR) investigated her case.
Jane Mugo was detained in September of this year. On September 11, 2019, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) issued an arrest warrant. Mugo was accused of armed robbery, impersonation, and making deadly threats.
Although the arrest warrant was revoked, Mugo was still required to appear in court. She argued that it was because of a case she was working on that a warrant was issued for her arrest.
Despite withholding specifics about the supposed crime, she claimed that it exposed alleged corruption among senior Kenyan government security officers.
In 2015, Jane Mugo was charged with holding a man captive for several hours after requiring him to pay Sh440,000.
She was also charged with pretending to be a member of the Public Service when she barged into the victim's attorney's office in the same year.
She had entered the home, searched it, and caused a commotion by introducing herself as a police officer.
