Charles Owino, a long-serving National Police Service Spokesperson, is a name that many Kenyans are familiar with. He is an outgoing man who get passionate when defending police personnel. Owino appeared in a number of interviews, wowing viewers with his eloquence and smooth ability to answer hard questions that portrayed police personnel negatively.
The senior officer had planned to run for the Siaya gubernatorial seat in the 2022 general elections, but the cooking was too hot for him.
Charles Owino Career
Before settling in his current position, the outspoken cop served in a variety of jobs.
He was promoted to director of communication services of the National Police Service in January 2018. He succeeded George Kinoti, who had been appointed Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI)
He has been OCPD Njoro since mid-2013 until being transferred to Ndiwa. He was later assigned responsibility for security in Kisumu County.

In the most recent changes made by the Inspector General of Police, Charles Owino has been appointed as the Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms and Light Weapons (KNFP). He will serve as deputy director.

In February 2021, he announced his desire to leave the police force and enter politics.
He plans to run for the Siaya gubernatorial seat and hopes to be the next county leader.
He also indicated that he will implement long-term projects to assist the inhabitants of the county.
Charles Owino Prosperity and Corruption
He is able to live comfortably after a period of service in the police force. Years before, during a vetting procedure, he readily disclosed his source of wealth. He claims to be the sole living solution to the police department's difficulties. The former deputy inspector general said that his fish farm earns him millions of dollars.
He went on to explain that corruption in the service was caused by low morale and a lack of sufficient remuneration, and that it was unjust to place so much power in the hands of someone with so little money.

He once confessed that he lost his children's mother in a hit-and-run accident, but justice was never served because no one got the car's license plate.
