Blaqbonez's Biography in Summary

Every season, new singers emerge from their neighborhoods and break into the mainstream music sector of Nigeria's entertainment industry. They come in a variety of genres, from rap to soul, pop to reggae.

One of the acts to make headlines this season is a young rapper who knows his stuff. Blaqbonez is the self-proclaimed "Best Rapper in Africa".

He's signed to 100 Crowns, a hip hop label imprint linked to Warner Music Group's famous African Partner.

The New York Times named him one of the best acts to watch, along with female distinct singer Teni.

The Guardian also referred to him as Nigeria's New Rap Torchbearer.

He's a rising star and has been named one of the top ten artists to watch in 2019.

Here's a look at his biography and how he got here.

Birth and Early Life

Not much is known about the upcoming sensational rap act, but we can tell you a few things about him.

He was born Chukwu-Emeka Akumefule on January 29, 1996.

He grew up with his mother, a minister. He grew up in a Yoruba and Urhobo cross-cultural environment.

This is why his rap style combines Yoruba and English, which he blends seamlessly.

His education includes an engineering degree from the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ife.

Early Start in Music

Blaqbonez discovered his passion for rap music by accident when he was 13 years old.

Destiny was in play here, and it only arrived on time.

One day, young Emeka was listening to the radio with his cousin when he heard a 12-year-old rapper reeling out a song.

The aforementioned cousin became interested in the song and challenged Blaqbonez to write his own lyrics. Blaqbonez was a diehard critic of rappers and their acts at the time, so he was tasked by his cousin to prove it, as it was clear from his assertions and criticisms that many rappers were performing less classy songs.

That's how it all started: Blaqbonez obliged his cousin and came up with his lyrics, which we assume were extremely dope.

Although his parents were vehemently opposed to their son's newfound love, he found a way to do it behind their backs, and when he arrived at university, the freedom provided him with a platform to hone his craft, culminating in the release of his debut project, Hip-Hop Blaq.

Young's Achievements
He began shooting for the stars at a young age, 16, when he defeated 3,000 rappers to win Terry the Rapman's Zombie competition.

A few months after this major laudable feat, he released his first single, "stronger," which was a branch off of his "Hip Hop in Blaq" Mixtape.

This victory led to him rapping alongside big acts like Vector, Olamide, Mode 9, and Spellz on Terry's album World Domination.

More accomplishments followed, as he cruised to victory as the first runner-up in the King Kong competition organized by sensational rap icon Vector.

He later became one of Rythmn Fm's artists of the month after winning their Freestyle Fury.

Blaqbones' Current Achievement

Blaqbonez BiographyBlaqbonez is currently a rap force to be reckoned with, and more than just a promising act, he is a colossal time bomb waiting to explode, albeit in a positive way.

He rose to prominence following the release of the single "South Africa Must Go".

He has over a half-dozen high-quality EPs, but his eighth studio EP, which was released on August 31, 2018, debuted at number one on the iTunes Nigerian Hip Hop chart, defeating some other industry veterans.

And oh! The EP's name is Bad Boy Blaq.

Some of the standout tracks on this EP include Mamiwota, accommodate, and consent.

The updated version of this EP, Bad Boy Blaq Re-Up, went mainstream in February 2019 and ranked 46th on Nigeria's iTunes Hip Hop Chart.

This album drew attention from every angle, and his fan base tripled as a result.

He had to admit that the album was receiving bountiful love in a seamless and natural manner.

One of the interesting aspects of one of the tracks, consent, that drew organic love to it was how he championed the campaign that women should be treated with respect by men, not just through charades on the internet, but that it should be done properly outside of the online world.

This stated that the album had received album of the year recognition.

It's also worth noting that this album had contenders from albums such as Burna Boy's "YE" and MI's "Rendevouz," arguably Nigeria's biggest rap export.

The Controversy Over "Best Rapper in Africa"

Blaqbonez has had his fair share of controversy, which, as the drill goes in the industry, is usually coated with a short-lived fame (well after the dust settles, the fame follows suit), when he created a diss freestyle called the "Best Rapper in Africa".

For all intents and purposes, he claimed to be Africa's biggest rapper.

This has caused some controversy and raised eyebrows, as many people believe he is assuming too much air for a newcomer.

He trended for a few months before having to clarify that the diss track was a wake-up call to all African rappers who had become complacent, and that he had no intention of disrespecting MI and Vector's eminent status in any way.

Blaqbonez is doing well, and we can only expect more exciting releases from his pool of rap talent.
