Beryl, who comes from an eight-sibling family, says she was inspired to write about the distinct personalities of her sisters and brothers. Her mother was also a great storyteller, which inspired her to begin writing when she was 11 years old and in primary school. "I used to write the stories she used to tell us, and that's how I realized I could write well," she explains.

She is unable to leave the house without her phone.
 Beryl says that as a writer, the one thing she cannot leave the house without is her phone. "My phone is very important to me; I use it to write my stories and for a variety of other purposes."
