Avril (Judith Nyambura Mwangi) is a Kenyan songwriter, singer, actor, performer, and mentor.
Although nothing is known about Avril's family, she is the eldest of three children. Her mother is still alive, but her father passed away on March 28th, 2016.
Education
Avril completed her secondary school at St. Joseph's Girls Nsambya in Uganda. In 2006, she enrolled at the University of Nairobi to study design.
Career
Avril's talent may have developed unconsciously throughout her high school years, as she was an active part of the theatre and music festivals. Later, she participated in the Jaza Lorry Initiative, where she met talent manager Emmanuel Banda, who was involved in the production of Ogopa Deejays. He tried to persuade her to join music because he saw her talent, but she declined.
She changed her mind during her second year of university and released her first single, "mom," in 2009. In 2010, she was given the opportunity to appear in Tanzanian singer A.Y's Leo remix. Her newfound recognition led to a duet with Sudanese Lam on the song Changes. Avril's big break came when she and singer Marya recorded 'chokoza.'
