Aramide Sarumoh was born in Lagos, Nigeria on June 22, 1985 to parents from Ibadan, Oyo state. She is a Nigerian afro-soul/jazz artist who has won numerous awards.
Aramide Sarumoh's Childhood
Aramide was raised and educated in Jos, Plateau State. While in Jos, she honed her singing, songwriting, and instrumentalist abilities. Aramide grew up in a musical family, which sparked her interest in music. She learned to play the saxophone and guitar after finishing secondary school, two instruments she adores. She competed in the Star Quest talent show while studying Political Science at the University of Jos, becoming a member of a band that finished third runners-up. Soon after graduation, her ever-expanding solo career took off.
Aramide Sarumoh's Professional Career
Aramide competed in Star Quest in 2006, but she didn't have a significant record available on air for about 2 years. In 2008, she was a part of a show called "Divas Unplugged," which featured female hosts in her hometown of Jos. The show was both challenging and rewarding, and her performance and participation were both inspiring.
In 2011, Aramide released her first official single, "Killing Me," which was produced by Sizzle. She released another single, "It's Over," in 2012, and the video was released in 2017. Trybe Records released her first two singles. She released her third single "Felling the Feeling" on February 3rd, 2014.
After leaving Trybe Records, she was signed to Baseline Music on September 9, 2014.
She received her first professional award of her career at the Headies 2015 edition, which was held at the Landmark Events Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos, where she won the Best Vocal Performance (Female). Her song "Iwo Nikan" helped her break into the Nigerian music industry.
Suitcase, her debut album, was released in November 2016 and includes singles such as 'FunMi Lowo' featuring Sir Dauda and 'Love Me' featuring Adekunle Gold, which have topped various charts for several weeks and are currently receiving massive airplay on radio stations both within and outside Nigeria.
This is in addition to her award-winning singles 'Iwo Nikan' about unconditional love and 'Feeling This Feeling' about love and friendship.
Aramide has worked and shared the stage with Banky W, Sound Sultan, Tiwa, Dr Sid, MI, Adekunle Gold, Koker, eLDee, Waje, Yemi Alade, and many other Nigerian artists, including Good Man by eLDee, an offshoot from the campaign "Violence against women." Her acoustic renditions and female versions of eLDee's popular song "Today Today" and Davido's "Ekuro" went viral and received a lot of praise in comparison to the original.
Aramide's debut world tour, "Aramide Suitcase Live" (ASL), took place in the United States, Ghana, and Nigeria in 2017.
She performed at the legendary Sounds of Brazil (SOBs) in New York, as well as the Ford Amphitheater on the Coney Island Boardwalk. She has since appeared at events in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, Dubai, the United States, and Canada.
Aramide sings about love, betrayal, friendship, trust, and the joys and aches that come with being a woman. Erykah Badu, Miriam Makeba, Sade, Angelique Kidjo, and other legends are among her musical influences.
