Officially referred to as Hon. Lady Justice Martha Karambu Koome, she is the current chief justice heading the highest court in the land as president taking over from RT Justice David Maraga
She was born on 3rd June 1960 in Kithiu village in Meru County. She is the Chief Justice of Kenya and the President of the Supreme Court of Kenya. She was a former judge of the Court of Appeal in Kenya. She was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to be the Chief Justice of Kenya on May 19 2021 after beating other formidable opponents. She is the first femail chief justice of the supreme court of Kenya.
After payrises by SRC, High Court judges now earn a maximum of Sh1,000,974 up from Sh907,279. The SRC has furnished JSC with an itemised consolidated pay of the judicial officers, which indicates the salary of the Chief Justice will remain at Sh1. 3 million.
She is married to Koome Kiragu and blessed with three children, son Kelvin Koome and daughters; Kagwira Koome and Nkirote Koome.
Kelvin looked dapper in a statement-making black ensemble while Kagwira stunned in a show-stopping midi dress during her swearing in. Nkirote brought a refreshing look to African prints with subtle accessories and chic afro.
Koome's husband, Kiragu, serves as the chairperson of the Habitat for Humanity-Kenya.He leads various programs that help communities develop proper housing, water use, sanitation, energy access and land tenure.
