On 25th April 1991, Trufena Wanjiru Gitu famously known as Fena Gitu was born in Buru Buru Estate, Nairobi. She is a Kenyan female singer-rapper, songwriter, and producer.  

 

Fena Gitu’s Music Life and Career.

Having a family that has a large musical background, Fena got exposed and developed a passion for music at a young age, despite her dreams of becoming an astronaut, she eventually pursued music.

Her major breakthrough came in 2008 when she participated and won in a singing competition,’ Fete de la Musique at Alliance Francaise, Nairobi. She started off as a backup singer in 2009, for Dela and Muthoni the Drummer Queen’s team.

In 2010 she broke and decided to pursue a solo career in the music industry, and released her chart-topping singles ‘Fenamenal Woman,’ ‘Africa Massive,’ and ‘Dutch.’ Being in the industry for over a decade now, she had work and discipline has seen her releasing two major albums, ‘Fenomenom’ and ‘Unleashed’ with over 30 songs under her sleeve, ‘Brikicho,’ ‘Siri,’ ‘Sijaskia Vibaya,’ ‘Sema Ng’we,’ ‘Power,’ and ‘Doing her thing tho’ which was favorable airplay.

Her effortless fusion of sound and lyrics cuts across different genres including, neo-soul, afro-soul, afro-house, reggae, hip-hop, creating her unique signature ‘Fenamenal sound’, described as Urban Soul.

Her massive energy is matched up with great performances on top shows and sharing the stage with big names such as Vivian Green, HHP, Naiboi, Nadia, Kaligraph Jones, Kagwe Mungai among others.

She has featured in top musical events as Coke Studio Africa season 2 and has also been a part of special music recording sessions in Nairobi. Her career has brought her recognition as she received an award in 2017 as a second runner-up for the Women in Business Awards and in 2019, she was a nominee at the AFRIMMA for the East African Female Musician category.

Indeed, as she continues to do her thing, the only way is up and showing power in a phenomenal way.
