Alfred Mutua's Biography in Summary

William Ruto's current cabinet secretary for foreign affairs is Dr. Alfred Nganga Mutua. He served as the first governor of Machakos County for two terms, from 2013 to 2017 and again from 2018 to 2022. Mutua worked as a spokeswoman for the Kenyan government before departing in 2012 to run for Machakos County Governor. He is the founding member of the Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) Party, which was established on August 25, 2016. Mutua is Kenya's current Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, serving under William Ruto until October 27, 2022. Kenya's departing chief diplomat, Raychelle Omamo, who served under President Uhuru Kenyatta, was chosen to succeed the Maendeleo Chap Chap leader.

Alfred Mutua Early life

Mutua was born in Masii, a settlement in Machakos County. He has lived, studied, and worked in Kenya, the United States, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates, where he has worked as a journalist, businessman, professor, public servant, and politician.

Education

He went to Jamhuri High School and Dagoretti High School (O level) (A level). He earned a BA in journalism from Whitworth College in the United States and an MSc in communication from Eastern Washington University. He received his doctorate in communication and media from the University of Western Sydney in Australia.

Alfred Mutua Professional career

Journalism

Mutua began his journalism career while still in high school, writing his first story in daily newspapers when he was 15 years old. After graduating from high school, he began writing features for The Sunday Nation, Standard Newspaper, and the now-defunct Kenya Times Newspaper. He founded his first company, Golden Dreams Company, at the age of 19, and began publishing the newsletter/magazine "Golden Times."

While studying in America, he began writing for various American newspapers and working in video production, releasing the documentary "An African in America" in 1996. He worked for several television stations, including PBS in Seattle. Beginning in 1997, he worked as a reporter and features writer for Nation Media Group.

He was then published in Australia.

He also taught at the University of Western Sydney, Macquarie University, and several Sydney TAFEs. In 2002, he left Sydney to become an assistant professor of Communication and Media at the prestigious Zayed University in the United Arab Emirates. While in the UAE - Dubai and Abu Dhabi - he performed research in the Middle East and flew to Oman and Beirut, Lebanon to present papers and studies on the use of media and communication for peace and development.

In 1999, he began writing a popular weekly travel column called "Msafiri" for the Daily Nation Newspaper's Friday issue, and he later became a contributor of opinion pieces for the Sunday Nation.

Alfred Mutua Political career

In March 2013, Mutua was sworn in as the first governor of Machakos County, one of the 47 counties established by Kenya's Constitution. Mr. Bernard Kiala, his Deputy Governor, was elected on the Wiper Democratic Movement Party ticket.

In August of 2016, Mutua founded the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party.

This was the culmination of months of speculation in Kenyan media and the general public that Mutua had defected from the Wiper Democratic Movement, the party that had supported his election as Machakos Governor in 2013. Mutua's decision to form and support a political party other than the one that had sponsored him was criticized. He was expected to resign and run for re-election.

Alfred Mutua Personal life

On July 1, 2000, Alfred Mutua married Dr. Josephine Thitu at Nairobi Baptist Ngong Road Church. During their marriage, the couple had three children. However, Alfred and Josephine's marriage collapsed in 2015, causing Josephine and their three children to leave to Australia. This came after the two parties fought in court for child custody and property ownership. Mutua's matrimonial property claim, filed in 2016, was dismissed by the court, which sought to divide the marital property.

Mutua established a love relationship with his then-partner Lilian Ng'ang'a after his first marriage ended. The seven-year-old romance
