Ahmed Rashid is perhaps one of the most dreaded cops at their prime. He led a team of six police officers from Pangani police station that patrolled Eastleigh and Mathare areas. Although the team was informal they managed to flash out gangs roaming in the area by shooting them dead when found even in public.
Rashid particularly caught attention when he shot a young boy infront of a mall in Eastleigh even though the boy was unarmed and begging for his life. It caused countrywide uproar especially from Human rights activists groups accusing him of carrying out extra-judicial killings. He admitted to killing suspects when BBC came to cover him.
However the government did so little to control him until IPOA (Independent policing oversight) led by ANNE MAKORI came through and started investigating him. From 2017 to 2022, the investigations went and was concluded later in 2022 where the body recommended he be charged with the murder of Jamal Mohamed and Mohamed Dhair Kheri.
The two were unarmed when they were fatally shot on March 31, 2017, on suspicion of engaging in crime within the Eastleigh neighbourhood. In the last five years however, investigations into their killing had stalled even though it was widely known that they had been killed by officers based at the Pangani Police Station.
